Privatized Housing Unaccompanied Housing Housing in the Local Community

Housing in the Local Community
The Housing Referral Office (HRO) provides all DoD personnel with personalized services to assist in locating suitable housing in the local community. Although moving is sometimes stressful, it can also be an exciting opportunity to live off base and experience a new location. The HRO will assist you every step of the way to help you find your new home in the local community.

Housing Services
Contact the HRO as soon as you know you are moving. The government housing team will provide you the latest information on the local housing situation and offer complete referral services and relocation assistance to make sure you find a quality place to live.

Support services range from helping members understand their lease agreements and the necessity for a military release clause to assisting in resident and landlord dispute resolution, among many others.

The HRO partners with landlords, realtors and property managers to make sure you receive the most current information about the local housing market. The HRO also monitors housing units offered for rent to the military community, which are listed in the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN), a joint service, DoD-sponsored website that offers a 24/7/365 single source of available housing to incoming military personnel and their families.

Go to AHRN.com and create a personal account to view the available housing and get a feel for the size, style and type of housing around your new installation. The listings provide contact information for the landlord or property manager so you can connect with them to discuss available units. Contact the HRO prior to making any firm commitments.

Community Housing Units
Military members have a freedom of choice in selecting where they want to live within a 60 minute commute to Holloman.

The Community Rental Market consists of:
1 Bedroom Apartments - Average Rent $370 - $780
2 Bedroom Apartments - Average Rent $395 - $985
3 Bedroom Apartments - Average Rent $850 - $1055
1-2 Bedroom Duplex/Townhouse - Average Rent $550 - $1150
3 Bedroom Townhouse - Average Rent $650 - $1185
3 Bedroom House - Average Rent $650 - $1550
4 Bedroom House - Average Rent $1000 - $1800
5 Bedroom House - Average Rent $1350 - $2000

Most rentals include basic kitchen appliances (i.e. stove, refrigerator and dishwasher). Some include amenities such as a fenced yard, fireplace, garage, pool, ceiling fans, and washer/dryer in the unit or washer/dryer hook- ups. For information about the housing allowances that financially support your move, see Referral and Relocation Assistance.

Personal Property Insurance (Renters Insurance)
It takes a lot more than pocket change to replace everything you own. Your clothing and furniture are just a start of your belongings. Consider what it would cost to replace your electronics and the things you use in your leisure activities. Fire, theft, or damage resulting from other perils can happen, and you could lose all your belongings in an instant. Don't assume your landlord/property manager will reimburse you for your loss. Renters insurance is affordable and is highly recommended to protect your things. Ask your insurance agent to help you obtain legal liability and personal property insurance for your possessions in the amounts that best fit your needs and lifestyle.

School Information
We understand that where your children attend school plays a large factor in the decision of where to live. Whether you choose a public school, private school, home school, or on-line school, you want to find the best fit for your kids. That is where your School Liaison Officer (SLO) can help. The SLO is here to assist you with any education-related needs pertaining to PCSing, TDY deployments, transitions, grade-level placements, special need services, graduation requirements, etc. The SLO is prepared to answer any and all questions you have regarding education within the local area. The Holloman AFB School Liaison Officer is located in the Airman & Family Readiness Center, 749 New Mexico Ave, Bldg 788, Holloman AFB, NM 88330.  DSN: 572-7754 Comm. 575-572-7754.

For your convenience, most of the community housing listings in AHRN.com include a link to schools in the area surrounding the listed house.
