Church Dedication

The townspeople of Forgaria nel Friuli and invited guests fill the San Lorenzo Martire Church for a holy mass Aug. 9, 2009, officiated by Monsignor Pietro Brollo, bishop of Udine. Col. Donald Cole, 31st Medical Group deputy commander, represented the U.S. Air Force. The holy mass marked the end of a 33-year project to rebuild all the churches in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region damaged by the 1976 earthquakes and a new beginning for the townspeople who no longer have to go elsewhere to worship. Aviano wins $300K in BMI challenge

Aviano Airmen run laps around the base track Aug. 12, 2009 as part of their morning physical training session. The 31st Fighter Wing was recently deemed the winner of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Body Mass Index Challenge that ran from December 2008 thru June 2009, going from 26.13 to 25.83 for a 0.3 percent loss between the first and second weigh-in. Michele Ermacora, 42, finished the third and final leg of a mountainous 7-kilometer race at Piancavallo, Italy, Aug. 2, 2009, in 33 minutes and 29 seconds. Mr. Ermacora’s A.N.A. Cordovado teammates Enzo Versolato, 46, and Luca Bardoni, 47, ran the first and second leg respectively and took first place with a combined team time of 1:46:47.
