Housing in the Local Community
The Housing Management Office (HMO) provides all DoD personnel with personalized services to assist in locating suitable housing in the local community. Although moving is sometimes stressful, it can also be an exciting opportunity to live off base and experience a new location. The HMO will assist you every step of the way to help you find your new home in the local community.
Housing Services
Contact the HMO as soon as you know you are moving. The government housing team will provide you the latest information on the local housing situation and offer complete referral services and relocation assistance to make sure you find a quality place to live.
Support services range from helping members understand their lease agreements and the necessity for a military release clause to assisting in resident and landlord dispute resolution, among many others.
The HMO partners with landlords, realtors and property managers to make sure you receive the most current information about the local housing market. The HMO also monitors housing units offered for rent to the military community, which are listed in the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN), a joint service, DoD-sponsored website that offers a 24/7/365 single source of available housing to incoming military personnel and their families.
Go to AHRN.com and create a personal account to view the available housing and get a feel for the size, style and type of housing around your new installation. The listings provide contact information for the landlord or property manager so you can connect with them to discuss available units. Contact the HMO prior to making any firm commitments. This site generates three letters at your 90/60/30 days to PCS, please pay special attention to them and do not enter into any rental agreement or leave money to hold a place before your arrival.
Community Housing Units
Located on Florida's emerald coast in Bay County, Tyndall Air Force Base is nestled in a wide variety of community housing. Located on the Florida Panhandle, enjoying sugar-white sandy beaches and the warm emerald water of the Gulf of Mexico, TAFB is located about 13 miles east of Panama City and 20 miles west of Port St Joe. All cities provide a cozy family atmosphere with facilities for our military and DOD personnel to live, work, and play. The area's amenities include central air/heat, kitchen appliances, washer/dryer hook-ups, fitness/weight center, pools and ceiling fans. We also provide information for short tours to this area. The median price of a single family home is $200,000 and the average rent for a two bedroom is $750; three bedroom is $1,200 and four bedroom is $1,450.00 and up.

Personal Property Insurance
You need to obtain legal liability and personal property insurance for your possessions and should choose the options and amounts that best fit your needs and lifestyle. Insure your personal property and the landlord's residence with a Home Renter's Insurance Policy. Ask your participating agent about the information for this area.
School Information
For families, we understand that where your children attend school plays a large factor in the decision of where to live. For your convenience, all community housing listings in the Automated Housing Referral Network site (AHRN.com) include a link to schools in the area surrounding the listed house.
