REFERRAL AND RELOCATION ASSISTANCE

Developing a sense of community here starts before you arrive at Maxwell AFB. We recognize the efforts behind this transition and want to make sure you are satisfied with the details of your move. To obtain referral and relocation assistance, we encourage you to reach out for personalized services provided by the Military Housing Office (MHO) staff. 

The services and assistance offered by the local MHO often save time and money by making you aware of the regulations governing off-base housing. Feel free to contact the MHO with all your questions! 

The following services are available to military members, Reservists, Guard Members, DOD Civilians, and DOD Contractors:
- Referral to privatized housing 
- Referral to off -base housing 
- Lease review (prior to signing)

- Reference materials (maps, utility information, local community guides, BAH rates and referral brochure) 
- Landlord and tenant complaints, discrimination complaints

Maxwell Air Force Base is located in Montgomery, Alabama--the Capital city of the American South. Our military base which includes Gunter Annex is the center of Montgomery and the heart of surrounding cities that support our military families. Surrounding cities include Prattville, Millbrook, and Wetumpka. You will find the weather to be pleasant and the hospitality to be the best. There are many things to do and many things to see such as the Historic State Capitol, the New River Front Entertainment District, and the Bass Pro Shop. 

There is great shopping and authentic cuisine from the local area. We are just a few hours' drive to the Beaches or the mountains in AL, FL, GA, MS, and TN. Montgomery is rich with history and you can experience our many attractions, museums and historical sites. According to the 2006 Census report, the City of Montgomery's population is 201,998 and the Metropolitan Area is 361,748. There are many lakes and rivers to go fishing, swimming, canoeing or kayaking, as well as camping. Maxwell has a lake front camp on Lake Martin in Dadeville, AL as well as a Mid-Bay Shores Recreation Center in Niceville, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. 

HOUSING ALLOWANCES

Military members are entitled to various allowances to ensure the transition to a new location is as smooth and stress free as possible. If you have any questions about the allowance listed, please contact the MHO. 

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH)
Military members assigned to Maxwell AFB receive Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). The purpose of the BAH program is to provide housing allowances to service members based on median housing costs in local civilian markets. The DoD determines the correct housing allowance to enable members to afford suitable housing within a reasonable distance of their duty location. The allowance is set based on geographic duty location, pay grade, and dependent status and is adjusted each year.
