Vance AFB is located in Garfield County, 5 miles south of Enid, OK and approximately 94 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Enid, which is located approximately 35 miles west of I-35 on Hwy 412 and is intersected by Hwy 412 and Hwy 81, is the county seat of Garfield County. The economy of the city largely depends on oil and agriculture. The current population of Enid is approximately 49,000 while Garfield County is home to approximately 62,000 people.
The average temperature ranges from 83 degrees in summer to 33 degrees in winter, creating a sense of simple antiquity with changing seasons.
TWENTY-FOUR HOUR ARRIVAL POINT: The 24-hour arrival point is the Cherokee Inn, (lodging office), Building 714, Goad Street. If you are arriving via airlines, the Will Rogers International Airport in Oklahoma City is the closest major airport to Vance. It is best to arrange transportation from the airport with your sponsor as the taxi service to Enid is expensive. The trip is about 1¾ hours one-way and cost approximately $208. If you are driving, from Interstate 35, take the Enid exit and head west on US 412/64. Once in Enid turn left onto Van Buren (US 81) and head south. At Southgate Road, take a right and proceed until you see a well marked sign for the Vance AFB main gate. Stay on the main road (Gott St.) and when it divides into a Y stay to the right on Goad Street. The Cherokee Inn will be on the right side.
Please note the Cherokee Inn does have pet friendly Temporary Lodging Facilities. If you are traveling with a pet you will need to make arrangements for your pet until you have secured a permanent residence.
