REFERRAL AND RELOCATION ASSISTANCE

To obtain referral and relocation assistance, we encourage you to reach out to the Military Housing Office (MHO) or through HEAT.

The referral process for privatized housing is a multi-step process starting with the Military Housing Office (MHO).  Once you receive official orders to Dyess AFB, you can apply to one, or both, of our privatized partners.  Once MHO has completed your referral, we will send a copy to Dyess Family Homes and / or Quail Hollow, depending on your family’s needs. Each privatized partner has their own application that must be completed by the member before you can be placed on the waitlist. The final step with the Military Housing Office will be a visit to our Welcome Center to receive an Updated Referral.  All incoming members must process thought the Welcome Center. The member is required to contact their CSS to schedule their appointment.

Housing in and around Abilene is usually available in a variety of apartment complexes, duplexes, single family homes. Most leases require a 1-year commitment, with most of them accepting a 30 day "written" notice to vacate. Please confirm the "military clause" is in your lease before you sign, as a protection in case of PCS or deployment. Also, an offer of privatized housing does not provide you protection for breaking your lease; you could be required to continue payment of rent until the unit is leased as well as a re-letting fee which can be very expensive. Seek assistance from the MHO prior to signing a lease agreement.

HOUSING ALLOWANCES

Military members are entitled to various allowances to ensure the transition to a new location is as smooth and stress free as possible. If you have any questions about the allowance listed, please contact the MHO.

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH)
Military members assigned to Dyess AFB receive Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). The purpose of the BAH program is to provide housing allowances to service members based on median housing costs in local civilian markets. The DoD determines the correct housing allowance to enable members to afford suitable housing within a reasonable distance of their duty location. The allowance is set based on geographic duty location, pay grade, and dependent status and is adjusted each year.

For more information about your BAH, visit the Defense Travel Management Office website.
